Current Interest Rate Decision of the ECB
On June 5, 2025, the European Central Bank (ECB) lowered its key interest rates by 0.25 percentage points to support economic conditions in the Eurozone. This decision reflects the ongoing disinflation and increasing economic risks. The new interest rates have been in effect since June 11, 2025:
- Deposit Rate: 2.00% (previously 2.25%)
- Main Refinancing Rate: 2.15% (previously 2.40%)
- Marginal Lending Facility: 2.39% (previously 2.65%)
Importance for Savers and Investors
The ECB’s interest rate decisions directly influence interest levels and financing conditions in the Eurozone. For savers, a rate cut means they receive less interest on their deposits. For investors, however, a rate cut can be attractive as it lowers borrowing costs and can encourage investments in stocks or other asset classes.
Outlook for Future Decisions
Economists expect that the ECB may cut rates possibly two more times this year to support economic growth. The next interest rate decision on July 24, 2025, is highly anticipated, as it could provide further insights into future monetary policy.
