BASF Reduces Expectations for 2025

BASF has significantly revised its expectations for the 2025 fiscal year downward. The annual forecast for adjusted EBITDA has been lowered from an initial range of 8.0 to 8.4 billion euros to now only 7.3 to 7.7 billion euros. This adjustment is primarily a response to geopolitical tensions, negative currency effects, and ongoing demand weakness in core markets, as well as pressure on chemical prices.

Financial Challenges in the Second Quarter

In the second quarter of 2025, sales fell by approximately 2.1 percent compared to the previous year to around 15.77 billion euros. Net profit plummeted drastically – from 430 million euros in the previous year to only about 80 million euros, which corresponds to a decline of over 80 percent. These negative developments could significantly impact stock prices and investor confidence.

Reactions from Investors

The profit warning has already led to a cautious stance among investors. Even an industry giant like BASF is not immune to global economic challenges. In summary:

  • BASF lowers forecast due to geopolitical risks and currency fluctuations
  • EBITDA expectation reduced by around 700 million euros
  • Sales decline and sharply fallen net profit in Q2/2025
  • Negative impacts on stock price and investor confidence likely

This development reflects the difficult situation that many industrial companies are currently facing.
